EDUCATION & PUBLIC OUTREACH

The National Suborbital Education and Research Center (NSERC) is the product of a cooperative agreement between NASA and the University of North Dakota. NSERC provides payload integration engineering, data display and networking, facility instrumentation, and planning and coordination of science missions for the NASA Airborne Science Program platforms. Education and Outreach activities for the program include student opportunities and outreach at conferences.

REACHING OUT

The goal of the Education and Public Outreach program is to inspire, engage and educate students and the public with science that is related to NASA DC-8 missions, specifically, and airborne science in general. Education and public outreach activities will be aimed at K-12 students, university-level students and the non-expert public.

One of the benefits of the NASA DC-8 is that it allows students hands-on training in airborne science using earth-observing instruments. Unlike research in satellite instrument design and realization - which can sometimes take years to see through - instruments aboard the DC-8 can be designed quickly allowing students to conduct research with these instruments well within the time-frame of their academic career.
